The New River Journal has been publishing electronic literature and digital art for three decades. Now with the publication of our 50th issue, we are broadening our mission to also include poetry and fiction. 

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please limit your entries to one per genre per reading period. There is no submission fee. We regret that we cannot pay our contributors. 

In the evolution of widespread generative AI technologies, TheNew River Journal is continuously discussing the place of AI in our journal. At The New River Journal, we are dedicated to publishing electronic literature and writing that explores digitality and technology. We are committed to showcasing work with a purposeful eye to social, material issues impacting the world today. In order to carry out our mission, we encourage our submitters to send us works that engage creatively and critically with the world around them. If writers choose to use generative AI, they should include an explicit process note acknowledging their use and their rationales for doing so. We evaluate AI use on a case-by-case basis.
